This article reviews approaches for ensuring healthcare workers are
aware of and use both primary and secondary prevention measures. Recommendations
include: Copy and distribute the NAPPSI Clinicians Advisory; if possible,
include a hyperlink to the NAPPSI home page (www.NAPPSI.org); analyze
how sutures are used in your facility and look for primary prevention
alternatives; conduct a primary prevention inventory assessment; use
this list to analyze the use of both primary and secondary safety
devices; use this list to update your exposure control plan; check
the NAPPSI web site regularly for news and technology updates; become
an individual NAPPSI member (free).
