Blunting the dangers of sharps injuries: NAPPSI focuses on primary prevention

Schatzlein, RN, MS, a nursing trainer and consultant, states that she has found many hospitals nationwide to be out of compliance with federal sharps safety regulations. In particular, many facilities fail to adopt the safest available technology because of insufficient understanding of sharps safety options. The author describes two NAPPSI initiatives designed to help close the information gap and proposes changes in health workplace culture that could also improve compliance.
