The National Alliance for the Primary Prevention of Sharps Injuries
(NAPPSI), based in Carlsbad, Calif. NAPPSI is a non-profit organization
dedicated to minimizing sharps injuries in the healthcare workplace.
NAPPSI promotes primary prevention as the first line of defense:
Eliminate the sharp and eliminate the risk. NAPPSI also supports
secondary prevention – that is, rendering safer those sharps
that must be introduced into the healthcare workplace.
The articles in this section validate the effectiveness of primary
prevention, show various ways of employing it in healthcare settings,
detail how it helps providers comply with state and federal occupational
safety mandates, and describe NAPPSI initiatives
